JAIPUR: More CCTV cameras will be installed at Sawai Man Singh Medical College in the wake of increasing thefts in the hospital. This was decided at a meeting with police officials held at SMSMC on Wednesday.
TOI had taken up the issue of thefts in the parking lots and other areas of the hospital in its report ‘Thieves giving hard time to patients’ attendants at SMS’ on February 9.
Patients and their attendants have to remain extra cautious as thieves target vehicles at the parking lot.
Acknowledging that thieves are around, a speaker has also been installed at the parking lot which keeps alerting vehicle owners about safety of their belongings.
“City police have also identified areas and we have also identified some areas in the hospital where thieves strike regularly especially in the parking lot. Apart from installing cameras, policemen will guard such areas regularly,” said Dr DS Meena, medical superintendent,
SMS Hospital. Traffic police will also install a system in the parking lot to keep a check on vehicles entering and taking exit.
The hospital administration regularly gets complaints of petty thefts, such as thieves taking away someone’s bags and other belongings. However, SMS Hospital has expressed its limitation to police for preventing such incidents as they have limited number of guards.
Moreover, they also discussed heavy movement of vehicles and parking on the roads outside the hospital causing problems for ambulances entering the hospital carrying patients.
