Mangaluru: For the 72 children of Government Higher Primary School, Thota Bengre, it was a day to rejoice. They received Rs 7 lakh worth smart class and modern equipment due to the efforts of Globe travels, Mangaluru, and Lotus Destination Management Company, Cochin. The smart class was inaugurated by Capt Sokratis Sklavos of the Costa Victoria cruise ship that visited the port on Tuesday.
Pointing out that children were the future of any country, Capt. Sklavos said that children should have the best facilities to get educated. Lauding the efforts of Sanjeev Kumar of Lotus DMC and William D’ Souza of Globe travels, he advised children to respect teachers to build a beautiful future for themselves.
Y R Belgal, traffic manager, New Mangalore Port Trust, said the example of donating money for charity is a noble cause, and should be emulated by others. “A person can earn lots and remain rich forever, but life is useless if part of the wealth is not shared with others in need. Helping others should be our motto,’’ he added. The ship crew members entertained the schoolchildren with songs and a short play.
