Noida: It’s hard to imagine the
Film City complex without the rows of cars that remain parked through the day on both sides of the road. Besides holding up traffic, it’s a security headache too.
If the Noida Authority and police can work together, this could change as early as June.
The Noida Authority has decided to phase out all unauthorised
parking in Film City and the congested Sector 1 within three months of the multi-level parking lots becoming operational in these two places in March.
“We are trying to make the multi-level parking lots operational at the earliest as most of the work is complete. We have not received any contractors to run these parking lots yet, so we are getting our own staff to operate it for now. Once these are operational, the on-street unauthorised parking will be phased out,” CEO Ritu Maheshwari said. Maheshwari, who visited the multi-level parking lot sites in Film City and Sector 1 on Wednesday, has set a target of three months to remove the unauthorised surface parking from the opening of the buildings.
The underground parking lots in both the areas have three floors with some commercial space for shops at the ground level. The parking in Film City will have space to accommodate 1,292 vehicles and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 110 crore. The one in Sector 1 has 534 parking spaces and built at a cost of Rs 47 crore.
The Noida Authority is also planning to construct a skywalk near the Indian Oil Corporation building in Sector 1 for better pedestrian access from the metro station to the commercial areas nearby. The skywalk is expected to join Sector 15 metro station with the IOC building across the road, officials said, adding surveys are already underway.
Meanwhile, the 240-bed district hospital being constructed in Sector 39 by the Noida Authority will also be made operational by March, according to officials. The 10-floor hospital is being built at a cost of Rs 346 crore.
The CEO also visited the hospital site on Wednesday and directed completion of the main gate and the signage board on top of the building at the earliest. For allotment of the staff quarters, the CEO has asked for the list of the allotted staff working at the currently operational hospital in Sector 30.
“We are meeting health department officials on Thursday for discussing the final handover. Our work is nearly complete, and the internal work of the health officials can continue simultaneously to make it operational at the earliest,” said Rajeev Tyagi, general manager, Noida Authority.
