Beat system to be back in 5 police stns of Allahabad range

Allahabad: With no let up in law and order situation and repeated complaints from citizens, state’s top brass is set to revive the beat police system under which a sub-inspector and beat constables would investigate crime in their area.
Of the total 100 police stations selected by the state police authorities across UP for revival of beat system, five are in Allahbad range — Kydganj and Khiri in Allahabad, Fatanpur in Pratapgarh, Malwa in Fatehpur and Manjhanpur in Kaushambi.
IG (Allahabad range) KP Singh told TOI, “Sub-inspector and beat constables have already been given Radio Transmission (RT) set, CUG mobile phone and motorcycles. They will soon be allotted body-worn cameras in order to facilitate prompt action on crime spot, including collection of evidence.
Emphasizing on the pros of beat system, an official said, “Beat policemen are in direct touch with the residents of their respective areas. With the revamped beat system, they can address the problems of their areas in a better manner.”
This is the first time that state police have initiated the process to provide smart gadgets like RT sets, body-worn cameras, bikes and CUG mobile sets to the beat staff.
The staff have also been directed to compile data such as details of prominent citizens, arms license holders, criminals, people aiding criminals, important and trouble-prone places, hotels/guest houses and religious places of their respective areas.
In addition, beat constables have also been encouraged to interact with prominent citizens of their areas to keep track of day-to-day activities and brief senior police officials on a routine basis, an official said.
If successful, the revived plan would also be launched in rest of the police stations, said another official.
