Nagpur: The
Nagpur University has declared 98% results of the 935
winter exams in just 30 days. Just five results were declared after the 45-day deadline while two were announced after 31 days from the last paper date.
The NU exam section had undergone a change of guard with new director Prafulla Sabale taking over just at the beginning of the exam season. There were apprehensions about the section not being able to declare results on time after several reshuffle due to assembly elections, clashing of exam dates and refusal of teachers to assess answerbooks.
As on February 17, 925 results have been announced in all. Just nine results remain to be announced while one is held up because of practical marks. The pending results, including the BPharm 3rd-semester as one of the papers, was allegedly leaked.
The NU had conducted the winter exams in three phases with the first commencing from October 2 followed by October 22 and November 13. A couple of exams in the fourth phase are yet to start while results of some are under processing.
In the first phase, most number of 402 exams were held. Out of them, results of 401 were declared in 30 days while one is pending. The second phase included 159 exams of which 149 results came in 30 days, two up to 45 days and 3 after both the deadlines. Five results from this phase are undeclared.
In the third phase, 374 exams were conducted. Out of them, 368 results are out while four remained undeclared and two came after 45 days.
In several cases, the exam section faced the biggest hurdle in the form of stiff resistance from several teachers who refused to report to valuation centres. For days, the answerbooks were lying without assessment, compelling the exam section to issue show cause notices.
Acting pro-VC Vinayak Deshpande said that this is not an individual task but was made possible because of contribution from all teaching and non-teaching staff of the university. “We try to achieve the target but the volume of work is humongous. Fortunately, everyone chipped in and contributed well. There were some who initially were reluctant leading to a delayed start but we adopted tough measures to make them obilige,” he said.
Regarding the pharmacy results, he said an inquiry was conducted and the report has been submitted. “We are yet to open the report. Soon, a decision would be taken and the result would be announced,” he said.
