AHMEDABAD: At a time when the entire government machinery has rolled out the red carpet to host US President Donald Trump,
cops called from across the state, have found new host — disciples of self-styled godman Asaram at their Ashram in Motera.
Sources in the police said that around 200 cops will be staying at the
Asaram Ashram for the event ‘
Namaste Trump’ to be held in presence of Prime Minster Narendra Modi on February 24.
Police officers said around 10,000 police personnel will be deployed for the Namaste Trump event.
Asaram is serving a life sentence for a minor’s rape in Jodhpur in Rajasthan. He and his son Narayansai are facing trial in a rape case filed by two Surat sisters. The father-son duo had last year got a clean chit in deaths of two children in their ashram in 2008.
“Nearly 200 cops who will be deployed near Asaram Ashram near the cricket stadium will stay at the ashram from Thursday till the event is over,” said a police official.
DCP Zone-2, Dharmendra Sharma told TOI, “They (Ashram people) have come forward and offered arrangements for the cops.”
Sources in the Asaram Ashram said that the cops will be staying at different sheds in the ashram. “We will only provide lodging for the cops but not food,” said a disciple of Asaram.
“This is not the first time for police personnel to lodge at the ashram. Earlier, they had stayed at the ashram when bandobust for cricket matches was done,” said an Asaram disciple.
