One of the biggest musical hits of 2019 was Kabir Singh, we’re still keep humming Tera Ban Jaunga. The man behind the song— Akhil Sachdeva, is back with another soulful track titled Channa Ve. The song from Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship has already got 130 million views on YouTube.
Akhil informs us that his song Humsafar (Badrinath Ki Dulhania) has completed three years. “I am very happy that the song is still being discussed and audiences love it. God has been kind of me,” he says.
Moving back to Channa Ve, Akhil has written, composed and sung the song with Mansheel Gujral. He says that makers approach him for soulful tracks because he writes, composes and sings songs with innocence and the emotions connect with the listeners. “It’s the same of team of Humsafar. Shashank Khaitan is making his production debut. This is the only song in the film and it’s important because it depicts the bonding between Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and their daughter in the past. The song takes us through the couple’s affair, marriage and break-up,” he says. He adds that even though it’s a happy song, he had to sing it without smiling and sound lost, hurt and emotional. “They showed me some footage of the film and I created the song accordingly,” he says.
Akhil has mostly written, sung and composed the songs he has worked, which he says gives him an added advantage. “I am not a lyricist exactly. It’s so happened that I write and compose all the songs that I have sung, and it has helped me create a different identity for myself. Because I do that, I can express them in a much better manner. I have a different style of writing. I like writing lyrics which are simple and relatable,” he says, adding that the masses can relate to his songs because they can sing along. He says that being the creator of the song also means that he has to bear the entire responsibility for it. “The responsibility and pressure doubles. I think, God gives responsibility to those who he thinks will be able to fulfill it. I feel blessed that I am able to do so. I am physically there at every step while creating a song. Though it’s a long and tiring process but the response that you get after it releases is unmatched.”
Akhil started his musical journey as the lead vocalist of the Delhi-based music band Nasha. The sufi-rock band has been performing at various platforms over 10 years.
The multi-talented musician believes that he has created his own path in the Hindi film industry. “People first do Bollywood music and then do shows. But I played in India’s first sufi-rock band for a decade. Even after so many years, we are busy with shows, travelling from one place to another,” says the musician who has worked on O Saajna, a track from Alt Balaji’s show Broken but Beautiful 2.
Ask him if he misses sufism in Bollywood compositions and he replies, “It is missing, but for me sufism is something very pure that comes from the soul. Connecting with the almighty is sufism. If my songs strike a chord with the audience, it’s sufism for me.” Though he is busy with film compositions, his band performances haven’t taken a back seat. “I keep doing shows. I have always maintained that my dream is to die on stage. I live music 24x7,” says the singer before signing off.
