Man involved in loot arrested after police encounter

Varanasi: A dreaded criminal Saurabh Malviya and a police constable suffered bullet injuries in a police encounter in Bamhor area under the limits of Mubarakpur police station in Azamgarh district on Wednesday evening.
Malviya and his gang members were on the radar of police following the loot of Rs 1.50 lakh from a customer help centre on February 17, said ASP city Pankaj Kumar Pandey mentioning that the police had also announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on him. The ASP said that the motorcycle used in February 17 loot incident had also been recovered from Malviya’s possession. Malviya and constable Pramod Kumar were admitted to the district hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.
The police had got clues regarding involvement of Malviya’s gang in the loot incident after which the police launched a manhunt for them, he said. On Wednesday, the police teams received some inputs regarding the movement of the gang in Mubarakpur area following which they cordoned the area. The police tried to intercept him when Malviya, along with his accomplices, passed through the area on two motorcycles. On seeing the police, they opened fire. In retaliatory firing by the police Malviya was injured in leg while his accomplices managed to escape.
Group clash: A general merchant shop owner Jhinku Ram and a customer Harinarain suffered bullet injuries when some motorcycle-borne miscreants opened fire on them in Vajidpur area under Kaptanganj police station in Azamgarh district on Tuesday night and fled the scene.
Angered over the incident, people of Dalit dominates areas of the village attacked the place of one Ramesh Singh alleging that he had planned such attack on Jhinku Ram over a land dispute. Following this Rameh and his supporters came face to face and both the groups indulged in brick batting.
Several persons of both the groups suffered injuries in the clash. Later, police rushed Jhinku Ram, Harinarain and other injured including Baljit to the hospital. Both the groups had filed complaints to police in this connection.
