Bijnor after its tooth broke some days ago. It was undergoing treatment here but failed to survive even after five teams of doctor were on it.
The jumbo was found on February 16 in a sugarcane field at Ramjiwala village under Barhapur forest range of Najibabad division. According to villagers, it was roaming here since the last few days and seemed to be sick. He collapsed in a sugarcane field on February 16.
Villagers informed forest officials about the presence of a jumbo in a sugarcane field. A team of experts and doctors from
elephant rescue centre and Kanpur zoo rushed to the scene to study the condition of elephant. They were treating him for the last three days.
Chief forest conservator Bareilly, Lalit Verma and forest conservator Javed Akhtar visited the place where the elephant was found on Tuesday.
Confirming the death of the jumbo, Najibabad divisional forest officer, Manoj Kumar Shukla, said, "The elephant died of molar infection. Its tooth conked out. It seems it might have eaten some object in the forest. The place in the mouth from where tooth broke was badly infected. It was unable to eat and therefore was very weak. This led to its death. The place where it was found is merely 500meter away from the border of Corbett Tiger reserve area. It might have come here from that place."
"We have informed higher authorities about the incident. Post-mortem of the carcass will be carried out on Thursday. A team of IVRI will come here for the same," Shukla said.
