LUDHIANA: Two vegetable vendors were injured after a 32-year-old man opened fire at them at an eating joint in Manmohan Colony, Bahadur Ke Road, on Monday night.
While Raman Kumar, 32, took a bullet on his leg, Sham Kumar, 30, received pellet injuries. Mani, a resident of Bank Colony, had fired four shots.
Jodhewal police station SHO sub-inspector Arshdeep Kaur Grewal said, “Raman and Sham, residents of Bahadur Ke Road, supplied vegetables to the eating joint, owned by Bhola Kumar. A few days ago, Mani, who frequents the eating joint, did not foot the bill after having a meal there. When Bhola asked him to pay up, Mani thrashed him. Bhola shared the incident with Raman and Sham. On Monday night, Raman and Sham went to the eating joint to collect their payment. Bhola told them that Mani’s friend was sitting there and they could force him to call Mani here. After Raman and Sham threatened Mani’s friend, he called him up.”
Minutes later, Mani reached there with a pistol. “He started arguing with Bhola. When Raman and Sham came to his rescue, Mani fired shots at them. Of the four shots he fired, one hit Raman on his leg. Sham sustained pellet injuries. Mani then escaped from the spot,” the sub-inspector added.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
“We have recovered two bullet shells from the spot. After recording the statements of Raman and Sham, an attempt to murder case will be registered. Earlier, too, Mani had been involved in scuffle cases.
