NEW DELHI:
Nelco, a
Tata group company Wednesday launched
in-flight communicaton service in partnership with
Pansonic for airlines in India.
In September 2019, Nelco has forayed into maritime communication services, after receiving an In-flight and Maritime Communication (IFMC) license.
Mumbai-based satellite communication and enterprise services has been currently working with a few India-bound international carriers.
In May 2018, a high-level inter-ministerial committee, headed by then telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan, approved the move to allow air travelers to access the Internet and make voice calls.
Subsequently, in December 2018, the Centre launched the In-flight and Maritime Communication (IFMC) licence regime allowing companies to offer in-flight connectivity services for 10 years.
