Noida: A Class X student has alleged that four youths in her locality have threatened to
burn her to death if she doesn’t take back her complaint of molestation against them. Police have identified the youths but are yet to arrest them.
Family members of the
girl told TOI that the youths allegedly stalked and molested the girl while she was returning home from her tuition classes in the Baans Balli market area around 5 pm on Thursday.
“The youths were possibly drunk and were reeking of alcohol. They came near my sister who was walking with two of her friends,” her brother said.
He added, “One of them named Sunny came in front and started harassing her, asking for her phone number and other details. When my sister objected to their act, Sunny slapped her.”
When a passerby, named Monu who resides in her neighbourhood, came to her rescue, he was thrashed by the youths. “He has suffered a minor injury on his ear,” her brother added.
Soon after the crime, the girl informed her parents who lodged a complaint at the Sector 20 police station.
The police said an FIR had been lodged in the case under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. However, as soon as the youths got to know about the police complaint, they allegedly intercepted the girl while she was on her way to
school on Friday and threatened to kill her if she didn’t withdraw the same.
“One of them told her to withdraw her complaint or she will either be stabbed or set on fire. She managed to run away,” her brother said.
The accused have been identified as Sunny, Lakshman, Gokul and Sanskar. The police said all the youths are known to the family since they stay in the same locality, but they are currently on the run.
Harendra Singh, a senior sub inspector at Sector 20 police station, said the age and background of the youths are not yet confirmed and “efforts are on to nab them”.
