Uttar Pradesh budget 2020: Cops to get anti-riot vehicles and lighter bullet-proof jackets

LUCKNOW: The budget focuses on modernization of police force and betterment of infrastructure. The police will reinforce itself to tackle violence by procuring anti-riot vehicles and lighter bullet-proof jackets. To improve traffic, more body-worn cameras, speed checking devices and breath analysers will be purchased by the state police. This year, the police department has also planned to procure 'segways' for patrolling on railway lines. This year, an allocation of Rs 122 crore for modernisation has been made in the budget against Rs 204 last year- a sharp decline of Rs 84 crore..
"A part of the amount allocated will also be spent to strengthen tools and other important electronic gadgets in the newly-constructed cyber police stations in the state," said additional director general of police, logistics, Bijaya Kumar Maurya.
Maurya said 'segways' would help police keep a vigil near railway lines and residential areas are near stations. He said drones will be purchased for keeping an eye on the movement of VVIP convoys. Likewise, Rs 60 crore additionally has been allocated for Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in 18 police ranges. The state, currently, has FSL labs in nine police ranges, and the amount would help to develop the existing ones and also fasten development of labs in other police ranges. For the improvement in police infrastructure, Rs 1,700 core has been allocated for building and renovating police barracks, police lines across the state.
