A joint team of security forces gunned down three terrorists after a gunfight broke out in the Tral area of Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday evening.
The encounter was conducted by a joint team of 42 Rashtriya Rifles,180 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force and officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. A search and cordon operation was being carried out to find out the militants that were hiding in the area, when they opened fire on the security personnel.
The operation started at 12:30 AM and by 1 AM, it was over.
"Three bodies have been recovered and arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the encounter site," IG Vijay Kumar of Jammu and Kashmir Police informed.
The terrorists have been identified as Jehangeer Ahmad Wani from Aneerabad, Tral Raju Umar from Lurgam, Tral and Uzair Amin Bhat from Chesti Colony in Barramulla.
According to sources, the terrorists were associated with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind and all were residents of Kashmir.
An AK 56 gun, a pistol, two grenades, a large number of arms and ammunition have been recovered from their possession.
The operation has now been concluded and the process of handing over the bodies to the family is being done.
