MARKET LIVE: Sensex rises 300 pts, Nifty tests 12,100; HUL, RIL up over 2%

Equity markets were highly volatile in the afternoon session on Wednesday. 

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex rallied 400 points to trade at 41,287.87 levels. Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finance, and Nestle, that gained up to 2.4 per cent, were the top gainers. On the downside, IndusInd Bank, Maruti Suzuki, and Sun Pharma were the top laggards.

On the NSE, the Nifty50 was up 124 points to trade at 12,118-level.

Sectorally, metals and pharma counters were charging ahead with the respective Nifty indices gaining 1.65 and 1,8 per cent, respectively. This was followed by gains in Nifty Realty index (up 1.4 per cent) and Nifty Bank index (up 1 per cent). On the other hand, Nifty Auto index was down 0.44 per cent.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE mid-cap index gained 01.2 per cent at 15,608.57 level, while the S&P BSE small-cap index was at 14,679.03, up 1.45 per cent.
