Study on employment in co-ops to begin soon

PUNE: Padmashree Dr Vikhe Patil Sahakar Adhyasan of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is going to start a research study on employment generation through cooperatives, for which the department has selected some cooperatives as well as credit societies.

The department will be studying the direct and indirect employment created by cooperative banks and credit societies, employment opportunities at the organisations to whom the cooperatives had extended loans and its impact on the economy. The findings of the research will be submitted to Niti Aayog. A consolidated report of the findings will also be published.

A guidance committee has been appointed including SPPU Pro-Chancellor NS Umrani, RBI Central Board Director Satish Marathe, former State Cooperative Election Authority Commissioner Madhukar Chaudhari and Janaseva Bank Vice Chairman Rajendra Hiremath.

Mumbai-based Centre for Cooperative Studies and Research in Cooperation will also be a part of the research.
