In the light of the ‘indefinite hunger strike’ by Nine (9) students since yesterday, (February 18, 2020) for which a notice was given citing three issues, the management of the Institute has been holding a series of meetings with Class Representatives, members of the Students’ Grievance Committee and finally a general meeting with all students in the institute, both yesterday and today. While it has been explained to all students present that the fee for the current academic year will stay as per the present rates, except for those eligible for 25% free ship, the last date for paying fees is being extended to 31st March 2020, by when it is expected that the Committee to look into the fees structure in its entirety will finalize its Report/Recommendations. However, the administration would like to make it clear to all students that students will have to pay tuition/hostel fees, as applicable at the existing rates, before the now-extended due date, in order to be eligible to appear for final examination. As regards the Report of the Committee looking into the various fees structures referred to above, as per the decision of the 142nd EC meeting, it shall be the endeavour of the management to get the same finalized and sent to the Government, as early as possible, and preferably by end-March after fulfilling all procedural formalities,. On the issue of revocation of suspension of 9 students, considering the opinion/requests made by a cross section of students, the disciplinary committee will revisit the issue in its next meeting. In the light of the above the Administration and Faculty would like to reiterate their earlier appeal to the students to withdraw their indefinite hunger strike, as it is not advisable to continue with such an extreme step on matters which are under various stages of consideration and in the best interest of their own health and amiable academic environment of the Institution.
