BENGALURU: A 41-year-old software engineer from Hyderabad and eight contract killers have been arrested for allegedly killing his sister-in-law’s husband.
Mahadevapura police said the
Hyderabad techie, Sathya Prasad alias Sathya, 41, was obsessed with his sister-in-law and decided to eliminate her husband, Lakshmana Kumar, a resident of SLV Apartment in
Horamavu and softwar engineer of a Bengaluru firm, to get close to her. He had offered to pay Rs 15 lakh and buy a flat to cabbie Dinesh, 26, of
Hoskote, to execute the killing.
Besides Sathya and Dinesh, Prashanth G, 20, of Byappanahalli; Prem, 32, and Santosh, 25, of Kaggadasapura; Lokesh, 28, of Sidlaghatta; Kushanth, 30, of Kaggadasapura; Ravi, 37, of Malleshpalya and Saidha, 25, resident of
Giddappanahalli, are the others arrested.
Sathya provided Dinesh with Lakshmana’s details including a photograph downloaded from his Facebook account. After collecting an advance of Rs 1.5 lakh, Dinesh came to the city in January lask week along with his wife and associates and stayed in a lodge to recce the area.
After failing to execute their plot on January 30 and 31, Dinesh and his associates but failed. However, on February 3, Dinesh and his associates waited for Lakshman in two cars and bikes near his house in Horamavu. As Lakshman headed to office on his scooter, the accused followed him till Mahadevapura and intercepted him under the bridge and attacked him with weapons. Though Lakshman tried to flee, the accused stabbed him before fleeing the spot. Lakshman died in hospital due to injuries later.
Using leads provided by CCTV footage, Mahadevapura police nabbed the accused. Police said Sathya confessed that he was obsessed with his sister-in-law and wanted her at any cost.
Mahadevapura inspector Ashwathnarayana Swamy said that Dinesh had tried to kill Lakshmana a year ago in vain.
