ALLAHABAD: To make train journey more secure for passengers,
North Central Railway (NCR) authorities have installed
CCTV cameras at entry point of stations from both sides and the footage is displayed on a large screen for the station master to keep an efficient vigil on the movement of trains.
The system has been introduced at
Bamrauli station of NCR on a trial basis and will be replicated in other stations.
General manager, NCR and NR, Rajiv Chaudhry said due to extremely high traffic density there was the need to augment efforts to ensure no train goes unobserved while passing through a station.
“Despite high alertness of our ‘train passing staff’, sometimes we face difficulty in observing trains from both sides under the current system if the other track is occupied by a stationary or moving train. To overcome this problem, installation of CCTV cameras have been planned at entry point of station from both sides at Bamrauli station of Allahabad division,” he said.
Chief public relations officer (CPRO), NCR,
Ajeet Kumar Singh said, “Earlier, the station master or supporting staff had to be extra vigilant while observing trains. If they missed any fault due to obstruction from a running or stationary train, it led to potential safety and operational hazard. But with the new system in place, the station master will be well equipped to replay the recording of passing trains, zoom in for suspicious fault and alert the control room, even after a train has passed.”
Meanwhile, the GM also reviewed safety, punctuality infrastructure and other important issues of
Agra, Allahabad and Jhansi divisions through video conference on Wednesday.
In another major aspect of minimising accidents, especially at manned railway crossings, NCR has already started work for elimination of manned level crossing.
“To facilitate safe rail and road travel, 18 road under bridges would be constructed jointly by NCR and DFC in Allahabad–Kanpur section within next one year,” he said.
The GM said NCR made record earnings by selling scrap. “Till January 2020, NCR has earned Rs 181 crore,” he said.
