Popular homewares chain Ishka becomes the latest victim of Australia's retail apocalypse as it goes into administration – launching an 'everything must go' sale

Homewares chain Ishka has become the latest victim of Australia's retail apocalypse after announcing it has gone into voluntary administration.

The family-owned Australian chain, which was launched in 1971, has 60 stores across the country and around 450 staff members.

Owner and CEO Toby Darvall thanked the brand's loyal customers who have stood by the chain for five decades.

'Firstly let me personally thank you for almost 50 years of incredible loyalty to our wonderful, unique, quirky, colourful and much loved brand,' he said in a statement on Thursday.

'We are a family owned business which has relied on amazing customers like you over the many years we have been open. We greatly appreciate that.'

Mr Darvall apologised to his customers when announcing their choice to put Ishka into voluntary administration.

'However, after some very tough months, that may now come to an end – I am so sorry to have to let you know that we have made the difficult decision to put our business into voluntary administration,' he said.
