A woman was brutally attacked as she shopped in a North Wales supermarket.

Megan Martin-Jones was spat on, had her hair pulled, and had fingers poked in her eyes at the Morrisons store in Rhyl.

Her attacker, Chloe Furber, had already assaulted Miss Martin-Jones, when she'd opened the door of her car as she sat at traffic lights in Towyn and spat at her.

Three weeks later, on August 28 last year, they crossed paths again. This time 18-year-old Furber attacked her in full view of other shoppers.

When someone told her she faced arrest, she was said to have replied: "I don't give a f***."

Miss Martin-Jones was the new partner of Furber's former boyfriend. Furber's defence solicitor told Llandudno magistrates court that she was "very raw at the time after the breakdown of the relationship".

Andy Hutchinson, defending, said that Furber, of Gwynfryn Avenue, Rhyl, had no previous convictions and had a good work ethic, holding down two jobs.

District Judge Gwyn Jones said the offences were aggravated by the fact that they'd been committed in a public place.

Furber was given a 12-month community penalty after admitting three counts of assault.

She must carry out 150 hours of unpaid work, and was also ordered to pay Miss Martin-Jones £500 in compensation.

The judge also imposed a restraining order preventing her from approaching Miss Martin-Jones for four years.

Miss Martin-Jones told the court she had felt scared for her life during the assault.
