From the looks of it, Toyota is bringing some exciting cars to the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. The second-generation Mirai, RAV4 PHEV, and the highly desirable yet unattainable GR Yaris hot hatch are some of the highlights. But the Japanese giant’s big unveil for the Geneva will be a new compact SUV that will feature an all-wheel drive system and hybrid tech. Toyota has been teasing us with sketches but right now, they’ve come out with yet another teaser. Here’s what we can deduce from the teaser in question:
First and foremost, the yet-to-be-named SUV will be based on the highly modular TNGA-B platform as the 2020 Yaris. Yep, that is the same platform that Toyota promised will help make its cars more fun-to-drive. Furthermore, the new SUV will also borrow the 1.5-liter petrol hybrid powertrain from the Yaris. Now that brings us to the question -- Is it a raised Yaris, then? Toyota says it is not and that it will be a new SUV with its own identity. Cool.
We believe Toyota, because the sketches and the latest teaser looks like anything but a high-riding Yaris. From the design sketch, the SUV has a flat-roof, which we like and a small deck like tailgate, something we’ve seen in the hideous-looking Rolls Royce Cullinan. The only revealing bit from the teaser is the tail lamps which have a straight line of LED running through it.
Sorry, but we regret to inform you that the new SUV is not destined for India. But we are definitely getting a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Not again! That’s it folks. There is no point in yapping about the new SUV without any details in hand. But do come back in a couple of days as we bring you everything about this new mysterious SUV and others from Geneva.
