Istituto Europeo di Design has previewed a new concept penned by its Master in Transportation Design students.

Debuting at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, the IED Tracy has been conceived as a “new concept of mobility” packing an all-electric powertrain. It was designed for both public and private use, on- and off-road. Despite a compact footprint (3,740-mm/14-in long, 2,205-mm/86.8-in wide, 2,083-mm/82-in high), the IED Tracy offers enough room for six occupants.

This is because the cabin adopts an unconventional seating layout that incorporates an L-shaped rear and side bench seat that could hold four people, while there is also a single seat for the driver and a rear-facing seat for the front passenger.

Powertrain details about the concept are limited at this stage but we know it features a battery pack in the floor and is all-wheel drive, meaning it likely has an electric motor at each axle or an electric motor at each wheel.

The electric powertrain has allowed the students to design a vehicle with non-existent front and rear overhangs to maximize interior space. The roof and much of the sides of the IED Tracy are made from glass, with occupants kept safe by the large bright yellow roll bars visible on the outside. Found at the front and rear of the concept is a set of netted luggage racks.

The IED Tracy will be unveiled on March 3 and we can expect to learn more about it then.
