Manchester United gave their top four chances a massive boost with a big win against Chelsea last night.

United cut the gap to Chelsea in fourth to three points with their third win over Frank Lampard's side of the season. Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire scored the important goals for United, while Chelsea had two goals ruled out by VAR.

After the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer assessed United's top four chances, saying: "We keep another clean sheet, that's four on the bounce. We were a bit leggy, sometimes it takes time to blow the cobwebs out. First half we looked cumbersome but well, it's a result.

"This gives us a chance (of Champions League). We are not going to get any help, I cannot understand for the life of me why we couldn't play on Saturday as we play on Thursday again."

Solskjaer responded to Raiola's rant

Pogba’s agent went on a social media rant about Solskjaer last night and the United boss was asked to respond following the win against Chelsea.

No comment,” Solskjaer said. “People can say whatever they want in the world today on social media and it makes headlines, I don’t really need to say anything. Didn’t seem to bother any of our players, or anyone, so not gonna comment on that, no.

“I don’t have to comment through the media on Mino and what he says. I can probably speak to him myself.”

Bruno Fernandes explains where United need to improve

Another solid display from the Portuguese but he’s pinpointed where he thinks the team need to improve.

“I’m really happy. It’s a difficult game against Chelsea,” Fernandes said.

“They are a great team and we needed to win to keep fourth [place in reach]. I think we can do much better with the ball but it was a good game against a good team. They are really good with the ball but we played our game and won.

I feel good, obviously. I’m playing for, I think, the biggest club in the England and I’m really happy. It’s a dream come true.”

Paul Scholes criticises Chelsea bench reaction to Harry Maguire foul

Scholes thinks the Chelsea bench could have been more aggressive in their reaction to Harry Maguire’s foul in a bid to try and get him sent off.

Anthony Taylor took the advice of VAR and declined the opportunity to use the pitch-side monitor, affording Maguire a reprieve for kicking out Michy Batshuayi.

And Scholes thinks the Chelsea bench were too passive.

‘I think the reaction from the Chelsea bench could have been a bit more aggressive,” Scholes said.

I think if Mourinho is on the Chelsea bench he would be going ballistic and been holding his hand up [waving a card].’

Man Utd fans think Fernandes has solved one of their most pressing problems

When Harry Maguire headed in his first Premier League goal for Manchester United and ran over to the travelling fans at Chelsea, it wasn’t the captain who was the first player to get a song from the away end.

Instead, shouts of ‘Bruno, Bruno, Bruno’ echoed around Stamford Bridge in recognition of the perfect delivery from Bruno Fernandes onto Maguire’s head.

Fernandes was starting only his second United game, and he had earlier gone close to a goal of his own with a clever free kick that crashed off the base of the near post.

The Portuguese playmaker had to instead settle for his first assist in United colours, which could turn out to be one of the most significant assists of the season.

That is because Maguire’s goal was the first United have scored directly from a corner in the Premier League since September 2018 in the 3-1 defeat at West Ham.

With the quality of Fernandes’ delivery already resulting in goals, fans took to Twitter to declare their long-term set piece problem as being solved.

REPORT: Martial and Wan-Bissaka respond to tactical tips

Player Ratings

David de Gea

Was protected so well by his defence he had little to do on one of his most comfortable evenings at Chelsea. 7

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Was quiet and nigh-on anonymous in the final third until he left Willian with twisted blood and crossed for Anthony Martial. 7

Eric Bailly

Had a haphazard start but grew in confidence and executed some important challenges in both halves. Back to his best. 8

Harry Maguire

Arguably fortunate not to have been sent off for a needless kick at Michy Batshuayi and made Chelsea pay with his first United goal. 7
