Maserati confirmed that all new models will be developed, engineered, and built in Italy. The company also stated that all future models will adopt hybrid and battery electric propulsion systems.

Starting in 2020, the Ghibli will be the firm's first hybrid car while the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be fully electric and commence production in 2021.

An €800-million investment into the Mirafiori production hub for the GranTurismo and GranCabrio highlights the importance of both models and we're likely to see pre-production production models off the line by 2021 says the Italian carmaker.

The investment will see Mirafiori strengthen its position as a hub dedicated to the electrification and mobility of the future for the company, with most of its capacity allocated to its electric cars.

Maserati will still use its headquarters in Modena, where the cars in its range are developed and tested, and where the new super sports car is to be built.

This year a new super sports car will be built in Modena, the car maker has confirmed it will build an electric version of the new super sports car also at its Modena factory. Construction has already started on a paint shop, a completely new addition to the facility.

A new SUV will be built at Cassino as the company looks to compete in the luxury SUV segment with a second-generation off-road vehicle.
