No SA National Defence Force (SANDF) members were injured after a Rooikat light armoured vehicle hit a fence during a practice run ahead of the annual Armed Forces Day commemorations in Polokwane on Monday.
According to SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini the vehicle was "involved in uncontrolled swerving towards spectators dressed in uniform".
"There were neither injuries suffered nor damages reported."
Dlamini said the incident happened during the practice run on Monday morning at the Roodewal Bombing Range, which is a controlled area which the SANDF uses for personnel and equipment.
In the video, which has since gone viral, the Rooikat can be seen climbing over a sand-made cliff before swerving towards members who are watching.
SANDF members in uniform can be seen running for safety as the armoured vehicle approaches them before it crashes into a fence and coming to a stop in front of a bakkie.
The SANDF said it noted with concern the negative reaction the video clip received on social media.
"It is regrettable that there are individuals who hide behind pseudonyms whilst intentionally portraying the SANDF negatively by posting and/or commenting adversely against it with ill intentions of casting doubts about its personnel and equipment to the unsuspecting public," Dlamini said.
