KOLKATA: A van ricksha puller, identified as Krishna Kanta Das, was injured when the height barrier of an underpass, below the Durgapur bridge on Canal Circular Road, collapsed.
The incident took place around around 6am on Monday. Das, a resident of Garulia in North 24 Parganas, was rushed to a private hospital in Salt Lake. He was stated to be stable and later discharged. The accident led to traffic gridlock on that stretch of the underpass.
The beam was later removed and traffic resumed on the stretch. The bars were installed on the entry of the underpass below Durgapur bridge — which connects Ultadanga with VIP Road — after it was noticed that trucks and other heavy vehicles were using the underpass.
