CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K S Alagiri on Tuesday questioned the celebrations over chief minister
Edappadi K Palaniswami completing three years in the post. “EPS staying in power for three years itself is an achievement and what other benefit did Tamil Nadu achieve under his rule,” Alagiri asked.
The
Congress state president listed out anti-people measures like Tamil Nadu agreeing for conducting NEET for admissions into medical colleges, signing up for UDAY scheme that increased the debt burden of the state and implementing One Nation, One Card system for PDS as instances where the state’s interests were sacrificed.
“Retaining a post, while the party is in power is no big achievement. The
EPS government managed to remain in power only by succumbing to pressures and extending support to triple talaq, the CAA and new education policy,” Alagiri said.
“The EPS government had neither focused on enlarging farmers’ income nor generating employment opportunities for the youth, even while spending Rs 100 crore in holding Global Investors’ Meet. While hardly 50% of promised investments have been realized from such extravaganza, around 4,600 applications were received for recruiting 14 sweepers for state assembly,” Alagiri said.
