Man held with unaccounted ammunition at Kolkata airport

KOLKATA: A 29-year-old young photographer was arrested at Kolkata airport after CISF officials found three live ammunition with him during the pre-boarding security check on Tuesday morning.
Police said, Mal Sawmhlua Chhakchuak, a resident of Aizawl was about to board a Mizoram-bound flight when a CISF officer detected some suspicious metal object in his hand baggage. On being checked, it was found that two 9mm caliber and a 90/7Z/OK caliber was found in the bag.
“CISF officials questioned him but he could not provide any valid documents for carrying the ammunition with him and he was subsequently apprehended and later handed over to the officers of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport police station,” said an airport official.
Officers of NSCBI police station said, the youth doesn’t understand English or Hindi but he has a friend accompanying him who has claimed that the youth is a professional photographer and that he had procured the bullets from a police officer in Mizoram for commercial photography that had mistakenly remained in a pocket of the hand bag.
“The youth claims he is innocent but has not been able to show any documents verifying his claim. We are probing into his claims,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar Commissionerate.
