Greater Noida: The
women cell of Noida police is all set to come up with a mechanism to tackle crimes against women in the twin cities. As part of the drive, police personnel will hold meetings with women residents in Noida and Greater Noida. ‘Mahila
chaupals’ will be organised to make women aware about their rights and the procedures to report such crimes to the police.
Vrinda Shukla, the deputy police commissioner who is heading the women’s cell, has said these meetings will be held with resident welfare associations, teachers and students of schools and colleges.
“In these meetings, we will explain women about the procedures to report crimes so that it can be resolved soon. Most cases start as some kind of emotional abuse. A woman doesn’t realise that the accused takes advantage of it. In these meetings, we will be counselling women so that they feel secure in their offices, neighbourhoods, roads and homes as well,” she said.
Shukla also said that the police would ask the residents about the black spots where they were either harassed or felt insecure. “This will help us reroute PRVs to drop women stranded at night.
Now we have magisterial powers, which will be handy for the senior police officers to solve problems faced by women,” Shukla said.
For holding chaupals, the district has been divided into two zones — city and rural — where the ACPs will monitor the proceedings. Each zone will have one meeting every week. The police administration has designated Tanu Upadhyay for Noida and Saloni Agarwal for Greater Noida.
The DCP said both officers would get in touch with police post in-charges and beat constables to invite women to the meetings.
“Meetings will start from this week. We have already made necessary arrangements to begin it,” she said.
As many as 450 women police officers have been posted in Gautam Budh Nagar, while around 200 more are expected to join in coming months.
