Mitsubishi South Africa has quietly unveiled its new ASX locally. The new compact crossover, sporting a myriad of updates, kick starts the automaker's new year and boasts updates to both the interior and exterior.

Nic Campbell, General Manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, says: "The new ASX has an even more attractive appearance front and back as well as a variety of improvements and performance spec. 

"The Mitsubishi ASX was first introduced in South Africa in September 2011. The introduction of the original ASX has opened Mitsubishi Motors as a brand to younger families seeking access to the Mitsubishi SUV way of life with gutsy performance to match.”

The 2020 ASX comes standard with a three-years/100 000km Manufacturer’s Warranty, a five-year/90 000km Service Plan, and a five-year/unlimited mileage Roadside Assistance. Service intervals are scheduled at every 15 000km or once a year.

Tangible updates

On the exterior, Mitsubishi added a new bonnet to its ASX, daytime running LED headlights, a redesigned radiator grille, and a new front bumper. 18-inch alloy wheels form part of the package, as well as a redesigned rear bumper.

The revised colour palette now includes of Silky White Pearl, Sterling Silver, Red Diamon, and Sporty Blue Mica.

Inside, the dashboard has a fresh new design that also features redesigns on the controls. A new 8-inch screen sits atop the dashboard and is now adaptable with the automaker’s improved Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA). Black leather upholstery has also been brought on.

Mitsubishi retained the massive panoramic sunroof on the ASX.

Other standard features include electronic adjustment for the steering wheel (both reach and rake), a multi-function leather steering wheel, and automatic air-conditioning.

Familiar power

Mitsubishi says they’ve updated the 2.0-litre petrol engine, but the motor still produces 110kW and 197Nm. A six-speed CVT gearbox sends power to the front wheels, but the automaker also added a five-speed manual transmission to the range.

Campbell concludes: “The new ASX offers the best balance in design, technology and price and serves as an attractive cross-over SUV for our customers, with a spacious interior, roomy boot and fuel efficiency of a smaller car.”
