Guwahati: Ruling BJP in Assam has fanned out building up strong organisational bases in the assembly seats presently held opposition by Congress.
Congress in 2016 assembly polls managed to win 24 seats. State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass on Monday said, “We have held organisational meeting in Samuguri, Titabor, Moriani, we will hold similar meeting in Sibsagar, Nazira, Doom Dooma and Golaghat.”
While Titabor seat was won by former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in 2016, Leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia won from Nazira seat.
Dass said, “We have carried out massive development activity and our workers will take these to the people. We have asked the MLAs to summit the report card, so that work done by them in respective constituencies can be taken to the people.”
Asserting that anti Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest which has engulfed Assam since December last will not impact the poll prospects of BJP; Dass said that BJP will achieve its target of winning 100 out 126 assembly seats. “People were initially carried away by misinformation campaign unleashed by anti CAA protesters. Now wherever I am going I am asking the people of that locality how many people have come from Bangladesh. The anti CAAprotesters were telling that 1.5 crore people will come from Bangladeshi and will threaten the language and culture of the state.”
He added, “Several people are coming back to BJP realizing that there was misinformation campaign pertaining to CAA.”
