GATE 2020 Answer Key HIGHLIGHTS: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has released the preliminary answer key for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020 today – February 18. The answer key was scheduled to be announced on February 19, however, it has been preponed and will be published today at gate.iitd.ac.in. The entrance exam was held on February 1, 2, and 8 and 9. The GATE 2020 question papers have already been uploaded on the official website today.

Students can now raise objections against the GATE 2020 answer key. The objection raising window will be open till February 21, as per the official schedule. Candidates will have to pay a fee of Rs 500 per objection. The objections will be studied and those which are considered to be right will be incorporated in the final answer key. GATE 2020 Result based on the final answer key will be out on March 16.

Step 1: Go to  gate.iitd.ac.in
Step 2: Click on answer key objection link
Step 3: Log-in using credentials
Step 4: Click on the question you think is wrong, write argument, attach supporting documents
Step 5: Make payment of objection fee
Step 6: Submit

Those who clear GATE will be eligible to take admission in MTech courses at IITs, IISc and several other institutes, as well as they, will be eligible to appear for jobs at several public sector undertaking (PSUs). From past several years, MTech seats at IITs are going vacant up to 20 per cent. To curb this, IITs had increased their fee for MTech, however, it was rolled back due to protest by aspirants.

    GATE 2020: How is score normalised

    The normalised score is then converted into the GATE score. The GATE score is determined for all the 25 subject papers of the exam. For the exams which are held in the single session, raw scores are converted into GATE score. Whereas, for the papers held in multiple sessions, the normalised marks are turned into GATE score.     GATE 2020: Result and score card not on the same day

    While the GATE result 2020 will be announced on March 16. The GATE 2020 scorecards can be downloaded between March 20 to May 31, 2020 from the GOAPS portal. GATE score is valid for three years, as per the rules.

    Not raw but normalised marks are used for GATE 2020

    For multi-session papers (subjects), raw marks obtained by the candidates in different sessions will be converted to normalized marks for that particular subject. Thus, raw marks (for single session papers) or normalized marks (for multi-session papers) will be used for computing the GATE Score, based on the qualifying marks.

    GATE 2020: Are you committing this error

    While downloading the answer key, many candidates are clicking mistakenly on the question paper link. If you are facing the issue, here is a solution. While answer key and question paper link is common on homepage, when on landing page, candidtaes have to click on 'view' button in the last (towards right) clolumn to view answer key. The other one is linked to question paper instead.

    When will objections be reviewd

    As per the deadline, candidates can send objections against the GATE answer key 2020 till February 21. Based on previous year tredns it takes a week or two to study the objections and hence the final answer key will be out by second week of March. The final answer key is out along with result generally. The schedule suggests the two will be released by March 16, howeverm IIT Delhi has been making the announcements much ahead in time,.

    Biomedical Engineering is latest addition to GATE

    This year a new paper of Biomedical Engineering (BM) was added to the list of 24 exams. Other papers include Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture and Planning, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering among other subjects.

    Number of students appearing for GATE 2020 lowers, is fee hike the reason?

    While the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi had in a statement released earlier said it was expecting 1 million applications, the number of applicants rather dropped from last year. Last year 9.27 lakh applied, this year, 8.60 applied. The number of students who actually appeared in the exam was even lower at 6.5 lakh. The decline was being linked with the protests against MTech fee hikes. The fee hike has been rolled back for this year

    GATE 2020: Cut-off likely over 24

    For each year, a cut-off is released based on which both jobs and admissions are granted. This year, as per the experts, the cut-off is likely to be in the range between 24-26, as per the experts.

    Lowest and Highest cut-off

    since most applications were filled for mechanical engineering paper with as many as 1,71,432 students applying, the cut-off is expected to go on the higher end. While the least number of applications were filled in Ecology and Evolution (EY) with only 175 students applying hence the cut-off can be lower. The exam picture will be clear after the result which is expected on March 16

    What after GATE result?

    Clearing the GATE is not enough, one has to go through interview rounds. While the IITs try to judge aptitude for academics and seriousness for studies, the PSUs try to assess physical fitness and aptitude. Thus, it is only first step in right direction.

    What will be the cut-off

    Last year the cut-off for general category varied from 26.7 (EC) to 44.5 (GS). To be able to qualify for a good institute or secure a job at PSU one needs to have over 30 marks on an average.

    What is the difference between preliminary answer key and final answer key

    This is the preliminary answer key and candidates who attempted the exam can raise objection against the same. The final answer key is the one which is created after studying the objections raised. No changes will be made in the final answer key. Result is also based on final answer key

    What to do when answer key is out?

    Firstly, one has to download the preliminary answer key of their respective exam by going to the official website, gate.iitd.ac.in. Candidates then will have to verify the answers mentioned in the answer key. In case of an error in the answer key, they will have to raise objection with supporting documents. Candidates can also check the answer key with their responsesheet and estimate the marks they would have had received.

    When is the GATE 2020 answer key expected?

    As per the internal sources in the IIIT Delhi - which has conducted the exam - answer key will be released a day in advance. The answer key was expected to be released tomorrow - Feb 19 but will instead be out today. The question paper for GATE 2020 - all papers have already been released at the official website, gate.iitd.ac.in. The answer key is expected to be out within two hours, as per the sources.

    GATE 2020 answer key HIGHLIGHTS: This year the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi had conducted the exam. While over 8.59 lakh students had registered for the exam, 6.85 lakh candidates had appeared for the same. Exam was held for 25 papers, new introduction being biomedical this year. The exam was held across eight sessions at 566 centres across 199 cities.
