Samsung launched its first flagship for 2020, the Galaxy S20 earlier in the month. The series brought with it three new phones, including the top of the line Galaxy S20 Ultra, and its slightly smaller sibling, the Galaxy S20+.

While the Galaxy S20 Ultra hogged all the limelight at the event, the Galaxy S20+ too emerged as a very good offering because of its large display and flagship specs.

However, despite not being the subject of too many headlines, the smallest in the list, the Galaxy S20, may well end up being more popular than the other two expensive devices because of a few crucial factors.

Unlike the Galaxy S10e from last year, which brought with it slightly toned down specs when compared to its elder siblings, the Galaxy S20 from this year differs only in size and a ToF lens when compared to the S20+ and sports pretty much the same core specs as the S20 Ultra too.

Here are five reasons why it makes for a solid flagship for 2020.

Manageable form factor

The Galaxy S20 comes with the same display that's found on the Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra, but only in a more manageable, size. For the display, the Galaxy S20 uses a 6.2-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O panel that support 120hz refresh rate and come with HDR10+ certification.

However, because it's smaller in size, the display affords the Galaxy S20 a more manageable form factor that easily fits in the palm, but isn't too small to watch movies or play games on it.

Flagship specs

Coming to what's under the hood, the Galaxy S20 brings the pretty much the same core specs as seen on its siblings.

The chipset on the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 in the US, and Exynos 990 in markets outside the country -- possibly even India.

As for the RAM, the Galaxy S20 comes with 8GB LPDDR5 memory. This is the same amount of RAM that Samsung has also equipped the Galaxy S20+ with.

Powerful cameras

Both the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20+ support hybrid optical zoom of up to 3X and total zoom of 30X. The two phones also share the main cameras in the set-up, which include a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 64-megapixel telephoto lens. However, on the S20+ there's also a ToF camera. For selfies again, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ get 10-megapixel lenses.

Big battery

To power the phone, the Galaxy S20 also gets quite a big battery which tops off at 4000mAh. Considering the phone comes with a 6.2-inch display, this should be more than enough to help the phone last at least a day.

The affordable flagship?

Despite sporting competitive specs when compared to the Galaxy S20+ and even the S20 Ultra, the S20 still manages to keep its price down to an acceptable level for a premium flagship. Starting at Rs 66,999, the Galaxy S20 marks itself out as the most affordable phone in the line-up, and in many ways also the best Galaxy S series phone for this year.

The Galaxy S20 is already up for pre-bookings, with the device expected to start shipping to buyers starting next month.
