300 block road over accidents, traffic crawls for three hours

The family and neighbours of Monu also sought CCTV cameras
Noida: More than 300 domestic helps working in highrises in Sector 100 protested against rising number of accidents in the area, especially around the Sector 100-104 traffic signal. The protesters blocked both sides of the road for around three hours from 7.30am, affecting movement of traffic from sectors 107, 104, Hapur and the Noida expressway.
Family members of one of those who died in an accident on Saturday protested with his body and demanded immediate compensation from the government. Pointing out that three accidents have occurred at the intersection this month, they also demanded CCTV cameras and speed breakers at the spot.
The latest of accidents on Saturday morning claimed the life of 20-year-old Monu Kanojia, who was crushed by a cab while going to Lotus Boulevard, where he worked as a car cleaner.
His brother Ravi said Monu was hit by a car while coming from the expressway side. “We got a call from police that my brother has been injured in an accident. A resident and some policemen had taken him to Prayag hospital, from where he was referred to the AIIMS trauma centre. He died around 1.25 pm on Saturday,” he said.
The family alleged that while an FIR had been lodged on Saturday night itself, police are yet to identify the accused cab driver. Cops claimed they were taking time to identify the cab as the spot is not covered by any CCTV camera. “We protested because of this inaction by police. There are no speed-breakers here, which is the prime cause of accidents here. The cops are yet to identify the accused,” one of the protesters said.
In another accident at the spot on February 1, an 18-year-old girl, Muskan, was injured after being knocked down by a speeding car travelling from the expressway side. Muskan’s mother Gudiya said her daughter had suffered fractures in both legs and has been admitted to a private hospital. “The car was being driven by a woman. She paid for her treatment,” Muskan said.
Some protesters said they had heard about an accident on Monday morning, too, but police did not confirm this. The agitators renewed their call for a foot overbridge linking two sides.
As the protesters raised slogans and refused to budge, a police team arrived at the spot and assured them of swift action.
It was only after the family handed a memorandum to the SHO of Sector 39 police station that the protest was lifted around 10.20 pm.
Neeraj Malik, the SHO, said they were examining CCTV footage but there are no cameras that cover the spot of accident.
