PCMC budget presented to Standing Committee

PIMPRI: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar on Monday presented a budget of Rs 5,232.57 crore to the civic body’s Standing Committee.

The budget proposals aim at making Pimpri Chinchwad a most preferential place to live in and to bring prosperity to the city.

Hardikar presented the budget to Standing Committee Chairman Vilas Madigeri.

The civic chief said that the budget has been prepared while keeping the city residents at its centre, with an aims to enhance the residents’ standard of living and to improve the city’s grade.

The budget proposals will be considered at the next meeting of the Standing Committee to be held on February 27. The budget of the municipal corporation last year was of Rs 4,620.78 crore.

Later addressing newspersons, Municipal Commissioner Hardikar said that it is proposed to remove the existing discrepancies in the tax structure of old and new buildings in the city.

A resolution to bring uniformity in the tax structure will be placed before the General Body (GB) meeting of the civic body on February 20, he said.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROPOSED BUDGET
- The PCMC budget has provided Rs 1,406.90 crore for various development projects.
- Rs 349 crore have been provided for health. It is proposed to increase mechanised cleaning of the city streets. Altogether 51 vehicles will be used for cleaning the streets.
- The budget has earmarked Rs 214 crore for education with special emphasis on improving the standards of the PCMC-run schools. The budget has allotted Rs 227 crore for solid waste management and Rs 186 crore for construction and widening of streets.
- Besides, Rs 206 crore are allotted for the BRT projects in the city.
