A 'seriously lucky' resident miraculously escaped unharmed after a car crashed into the front of her home as she sat watching television.

The woman was in a chair near the front window when the black Vauxhall Corsa careered towards the row of cottages in Maenan, near Llanrwst, at around 12.30am on Saturday (February 15).

The vehicle came to rest upside down on it's roof wedged between the property and a surrounding boundary wall, with a wheel smashing the front window of the neighbouring cottage.

The vehicle's occupant(s) then fled the scene, North Wales Police have confirmed.

Builder Steve Devereux, who owns two of the three cottages, said his tenant was "seriously lucky" not to have been killed.

Mr Devereux, who rushed to the scene as soon as he heard what had happened said: "I got the call from one of my tenants at 12.30am and he told me a car had crashed through two of the houses.

"I went down there to check everyone was OK and that the buildings were secure as I'm a builder myself.

"The woman who lives at number one is seriously lucky, she could have been killed, she was sitting in the chair by the window when the car came crashing through it, she was really shaken up.

"There was so much glass and debris everywhere, both inside and out.

"The tenant at number two said he didn't hear anything in terms of the crash itself but when the wheel popped his window through he said the music coming from the car was so loud.

"The drivers fled the scene and my tenant says he had to get into the car to turn the ignition off."

He added: "We've had many accidents along here because it's a bad bend and it's a 60mph road.

"The council put an anti skid surface down a few years and things have been relatively OK since then."

Mr Devereux is now asking for the driver to come forward and has now applied to the DVLA for insurance details.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "We were called at 12:37am with reports that a vehicle had collided with a house.

"The driver did leave the scene and enquiries are still ongoing."
