ALLAHABAD: A store manager of a private telecom company was detained in Pratapgarh on Tuesday for fabricating a complaint of snatching to avoid paying back the money he owed his employer.
A call around 11.20am about a youth being robbed of Rs 15,000 in broad daylight between Patti and Raniganj sent police into a tizzy, but after a wild goose chase for two hours they realised that complainant Durgesh Nandan Shukla had made up the story about two snatchers on a bike.
An FIR has been registered against the Manikpur resident in his early twenties and he is likely to be arrested soon.
According to Pratapgarh SP Abhishek Singh, Durgesh Nandan told cops that he was taking the money to the bank for depositing it in the company’s account when he was targeted.
“A team rushed to the purported scene of crime in Raniganj. Neither CCTV camera footage nor local residents indicated any such incident as described by the telecom company store manager,” SP Singh said.
On being grilled, Durgesh Nandan confessed to police that he had made up the snatching complaint because he was in no position to return the Rs 15,000 he had taken as advance from his company.
This is the second such incident in the district within a week. Earlier, a man who owed a building materials supplier Rs 30,000 and couldn’t pay him back had concocted a complaint of being robbed in Lalganj.
