CHENNAI: A gang of women under the pretext of helping a 77-year-old woman robbed her of her five-sovereign gold chain in Ayanavaram on Sunday night.
Police said S Annalakshmi of Villivakkam was waiting at Kalpana bus top when she saw a share autorickshaw bound for VOC Nagar.
Inside four women passengers were present. They were discussing about a chain snatching incident in the area. One of they told Annalakshmi to be careful of her valuables and asked her to keep her chain in her handbag. Panicked, Annalakshmi did as told and got down at VOC Nagar. While walking home when she checked her bag, the chain was missing. Realising that she was conned, Annalakshmi registered a police case. Police said it was a case of attention diversion and have launched a hunt for the women.
