KMDA works on Salt Lake Bypass flyover alignment plan

The proposed flyover will run parallel to the Metro viaduct
KOLKATA: KMDA will finalize the alignment of the proposed flyover from Chingrighata to New Town in a week or two for placing the proposal to the board for approval. The project was discussed in the government’s infrastructure sub-committee meeting on Monday.
IIT-Kharagpur has been engaged to prepare a study to assess the traffic scenario of Chingrighata crossing on EM Bypass and to come up with the most feasible layout.
Earlier, it was proposed that a flyover will be set up over the wetland but the plan was scrapped and the authorities came up with a few alternative alignments, in which a flyover had been proposed from Captain Bheri on EM Bypass, which will take right from Chingrighata to move over Salt Lake Bypass — parallel to the Metro alignment — before entering Sector V from Nicco Park.
“As per the proposed alignment, the flyover seems to just move past a few waterbodies behind Sector V before entering New Town. The proposed alignment will be finalised by looking into the best possible options so that no waterbody gets affected,” said an official.
Once the authorities come up with the final alignment, a detail project report will be prepared and an environment impact assessment will be done.
