Nagpur: Every anime lover’s fascination is to become a super hero. Though not technically possible, participants at Otakus (Japanese anime/manga lovers) were seen in colourful attire, wigs and accessories resembling like their favourite anime character at the
Comic Otaku Superhero Convention at Suresh Bhatt Hall in Reshimbagh on Monday.
Organized by members of Nagpur Anime Club (NAC), the event was first held in 2015 and the second time in 2017. “This time we wanted to make it bigger and better. We had participants coming all the way from Mumbai and Meghalaya to give the event their best shot,” said Samarth Thakral, organizer and founder of NAC.
Such conventions are regularly held in metros and hence, two youngsters, Samarth and Tanmay Atte jointly organized this convention in the city.
“The idea is to get out of reality, to be someone you are not and get to be your favourite superhero. Many are not fortunate enough to go to Japan, so why not bring Japan here,” believes Atte.
The event had national and international guests like Sonal Kaushal (voice of doraemon), Vaibhav Lal (founder of vkaao) and Megumu Ishiguro san (production supervisor for Ramayana anime.
The Cosplay duo competition was the highlight of the festival. It is a practice of dressing up as a character from a film, book or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga or anime.
Apart from the competition, there were other amazing events like the quiz competition based on the Netflix series and Japanese karaoke.
This coscon drew inspiration from the Japanese festival of Natsumatsuri. Big Japanese cultural organizations like Japan Foundation, JNTO and consulate general of Japan (Mumbai) were the event supporters.
The winner of Pop Culture Hiroshima (India qualifiers) held at COSCON Nagpur was Team Abyssal Scar (Donald Khumlo and Garry Nelson Syiem). Their cosplay performance as Gilgamesh and Berserker (Fate Zero) was truly amazing, drawing applause from both the audience as well as the judges. It was an exciting daylong event filled with excitement and enthusiasm.
