PUNE: The Dehu Road police on Monday arrested a 20-year-old youth for bludgeoning his inebriated father to death on Sunday night in Vitthalwadi in Dehugaon.
The probe revealed that the youth intervened when his father, who was under the influence of alcohol, was beating his mother. He thrashed his father with a bamboo stick. The 47-year-old man was taken to a hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead. The man’s wife lodged an FIR with the police against her son.
Senior inspector of Dehu Road police station Manish Kalyankar said that the incident occurred around 10pm. The man had come home under the influence of alcohol. He and his wife started a brawl and he started beating her. “Their son was at home. He intervened to rescue his mother,” Kalyankar said.
In a fit of rage, the suspect began hitting his father with a bamboo stick. The victim could not sustain the blows and he fainted, the senior inspector said. “He was taken to a hospital in Pimpri where he was pronounced dead,” he said.
The youth has been arrested under Section 302 (Punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code, he added.
