Nagpur: Detection of murder case in which seven body parts of a man were found at
Gandhisagar lake in July last year has won the best detection award in state for September last year.
Crime branch sleuths, then led by senior
PI Narendra Hiwre, had cracked the case and also arrested the accused. Currently, Hiwre is the senior PI of Lakadganj police station.
PI Hiwre along with API Pankaj Dhadge, Nitesh Dorlikar, ASI Rajendra Baghel, constable Sandip Mawalkar will be awarded with Rs10,000 cash prize and certificate of appreciation in Mumbai.
The award was announced by director general of police, Maharashtra state SK Jaiswal.
On February 15, city police chief BK Upadhyay has also felicitated PI Hiwre and his team during the crime meet.
In July last year, seven body parts were found in a sack in Gandhisagar, following which additional CP (crime) Nilesh Bharne and DCP (crime) Gajanan Rajmane had directed Hiwre to crack the case.
Crime branch sleuths had scrutinized around 500 CCTV footages, also made sketch of the deceased and conducted investigation across the city. Cops had also searched every single missing person to find out the identity of the deceased and conducted DNA tests.
After a long investigation of 28 days, cops cracked the case and identified the deceased, Sudhakar Rangari.
Cops subsequently arrested the accused in the case and seized the cutter and e-rickshaw used in the crime. CP Upadhayay had then announced an award of Rs75,000 to PI Hiwre and his team.
This is the second award being conferred to Hiwre who first bagged it in 2003 for cracking a murder case of three persons in Khapa. He is the only officer from city and possibly in state to be getting the award twice.
