Sensex falls 202 points to close at 41,056; Nifty below 12,050

NEW DELHI: Equity indices finished in red on Monday for the third session in a row, dragged by heavy sell-off in banking, financial and oil and gas stocks.
The 30-share BSE index fell 202.05 points or 0.49 per cent to close at 41,055.69. While, the broader NSE Nifty dropped 67.65 points or 0.56 per cent to finish at 12,045.80.
Top losers in the sensex pack include ONGC, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Auto, NTPC, HDFC, ITC and SBI -- with their shares down as much as 3.20 per cent.
On the other hand, Titan, Nestle India, TCS, Kotak Bank, Tata Steel, Ultra Cemco and Infosys were the major gainers -- with their shares up as much as 1.86 per cent.
On NSE, except for Nifty IT, all sub-indices finished lower with Nifty PSU Bank, Pharma and Realty falling up to 2.96 per cent.
Meanwhile, on a net basis, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 704.92 crore, while domestic institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 219.54 crore on Friday, data available with stock exchanges showed.
