BENGALURU: Ballari police are expected to file a chargesheet in the high-profile Mariyammanahalli accident case within the next three to four days.

In the February 10 accident, the driver of a Mercedes Benz crashed on National Highway 50 in Hospet taluk, leaving two dead. The victims were an 18-year-old man sipping tea at a roadside stall and one of the car passengers, identified as Sachin, 27.
Following media scrutiny, police set up two teams and arrested the car driver, identified as Rahul, on Saturday. But soon after the arrest, he was granted bail by a Hospet court.
Ballari SP CK Baba told TOI police have nothing to hide in the case and were handling it in a transparent manner. “All the details are available in the case file, but we can’t disclose them now since probe is under way,” he added.
Police sources said the probe team is handling the case in a sensitive manner. There were reports that the son of an influential politician was allegedly involved in the accident. But the FIR registered by police and Hospet hospital CCTV footage do not indicate his involvement.
