HYDERABAD: A tiff over a man occupying a ladies’ seat resulted in the culprit stabbing a woman passenger aboard an RTC bus here on Sunday night. The woman, who suffered an eight-cm cut on her stomach, is out of danger and police launched a manhunt to nab the offender.
Around 11.45pm, an RTC bus of Farooqnagar depot (8C) stopped in front of the Afzalgunj police station with an injured woman passenger, Anuradha, 40, a garments store worker from West Marredpally, police said. “Anuradha suffered an eight centimetre cut on her stomach. We rushed her to Osmania General Hospital for treatment and her condition is out of danger,” Afzalgunj inspector P Gyanender Reddy said.
The victim, in her statement, told police that she got into the bus at AG’s office to go to Chandrayangutta. When the bus reached Exhibition Grounds, more women passengers got in and Anuradha noticed that the man was occupying a seat reserved for women. “An argument broke out between Anuradha and the accused. As he used foul language, Anuradha slapped him. The accused pulled out a sharp-edged weapon and attacked her on the stomach. After the assault, the accused disembarked from the bus at Begum Bazar and fled,” the inspector said. During preliminary probe, police found that the accused boarded the bus at Secunderabad and purchased a ticket till Chandrayangutta. “We have transferred the case to Begum Bazar police,” he added.
