BEHRAMPORE: Murshidabad Police on Friday arrested Trinamool leader Milton Mondal from New Town in connection with the Jalangi double-murder case. Sahebnagar gram panchayat pradhan Tamanna Yasmin, her husband Milton and Jalangi North Block Trinamool president Tahiruddin Mondal were absconding.
On January 29, the recently formed Nabajagaron Mancha called for a shutdown of Sahebnagar to protest against CAA and NRC. But Trinamool supporters opposed it. Consequently, Sahebnagar turned into a battlefield. Local imam Anarul Biswas (60) and Salauddin Seikh (17) died after sustaining injuries. On Saturday, police produced Milton before Behrampore CJM court and took him in five days' custody. Abu Taher Khan, Trinamool MP, said: "The bandh was uncalled for and a conspiracy of Congress, CPM and BJP to create tension."
