AURANGABAD: A 35-year-old police constable attached with Hasnabad police station in neighbouring Jalna district committed suicide on Saturday by consuming a poison substance.
Following the incident, the constable’s wife has lodged a police complaint stating that two constables, including a woman, have been blackmailing and harassing the deceased forcing him to take the extreme step.
The deceased has been identified as Vishnu Ramrao Gadekar, hailing from Jafrabad tehsil. The deceased, after consuming the poisonous substance, called and informed his wife that he was ending his life as he was being harassed by his two colleagues.
After the call, Gadekar switched off his cellphone. The woman then informed her relatives and the police station about it. Later, based on the call location, police found Gadekar lying unconscious in a rented apartment room and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
According to police, Gadekar got into a relationship with a woman constable while serving in Buldhana district. Over a period of time, the duo got transferred to Jalna’s Hasnabad police station where the woman constable reportedly got into a relationship with another constable.
“After learning about the relationship, Gadekar confronted both the constables and this led to some friction between the three,” a police officer said.
Jalna superintendent of police S Chaitanya told TOI, “The constable consumed a poisonous substance and called his wife to inform him about his action. During the call, which we suspect to be his last call made to anyone, he reportedly revealed about his alleged extra-marital relationship and the problems he was facing at the hands of the two constables.”
The officer said a probe has been initiated and depending on the findings action would be initiated against those found guilty. Sources informed that the widow in her complaint has also blamed the duo for allegedly blackmailing and extorting money and valuables from the deceased.
