Truck with Britannia biscuits stolen, two held

GREATER NOIDA: Two men were arrested for allegedly stealing a truck loaded with Britannia biscuits worth Rs 11.24 lakh from Badalpur’s Chhapraula village in Greater Noida on Friday night.
According to police, they traced the GPS enabled truck and intercepted the thieves late on Friday near Surajpur industrial area.
The arrested men were identified as Kartar (32) from Aligarh and Lokesh from Ghaziabad. Police said their third accomplice, Jitendra, is from Bulandshahr. He managed to escape.
Around 10am on Friday the men allegedly stole the truck parked at roadside in Chhapraula village after which Chandrapal Sharma, the manager of the transport firm in Delhi, reported the matter to the police.
Sharma alleged that the truck was loaded at the Ghaziabad factory and was supposed to deliver the biscuits at a warehouse in Greater Noida. “The driver, Pankaj, called me after the theft saying that he had parked the vehicle and gone to meet a friend in Greater Noida, but when he returned it was missing,” he added.
Harish Chander, DCP (Zone 2), told TOI that an FIR under Section 379 (theft) was lodged on the basis of the complaint and the truck was put on electronic surveillance.
“We spotted the truck late in the night with three men inside. They were asked to stop but they hit the barricades and opened fire at the police team, however, we chased them down. During cross-firing Kartar got shot in the leg. We recovered the stolen goods and two country-made pistols,” he said.
A case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) along with Section 25 of the Arms Act has been lodged saparately against the men and they were sent to jail on Saturday.
