AGRA: A 10-day
Taj Mahotsav will commence at Shilpgram, near the Eastern gate of
Taj Mahal, on Tuesday. The festival will continue till February 27 with a partial break on February 24 in view of US president Donald Trump’s visit to the monument.
Tourism department plans to open the carnival after Trump leaves the Taj Mahal for the airport due to security concerns. According to the tentative schedule, Trump will arrive in
Agra at 4:30 pm and will stay for over two hours.
According to administrative officials, so far it has been decided to suspend the day’s activities in the carnival on February 24, but if required then the night programmes will also be cancelled. However, a final decision in this regard will be taken after CM
Yogi Adityanath’s visit, said an official.
Taj Mahotsav is organised every year by UP tourism department. It provides a vibrant platform to artisans from all parts of the country to display their talent.
This year, more than 200 artisans will be participating in the mahotsav, showcasing their talent and promoting local handicrafts. Visitors will also get a chance to buy handicrafts made of brass and other metal ware from Moradabad, pashmina shawls from Kashmir, silk sarees from Varansai, silk fabric from Bihar, kantha sarees from West Bengal, chickan work from Lucknow, handmade carpets from Badohi, pottery from Khurja and much more. This 10-day annual extravaganza is the best time to witness the rich cultural heritage of the country under one roof.
The theme of this year of Taj Mahotsav is “Sanskriti ke rang, Taj Ke sang” (shades of culture with Taj). Cultural programs will also held in the Mahotsav that includes Bollywood night by Neeti Mohan, Kathak performance, Reality show star night by
Hemant Brajwasi, Mushayara, and Kavi sameelan.
